new road update
A long campaign against road restrictions in Gedling by Cllr Clarke and Cllr ORiordan has led to a breakthrough. At a meeting at the County Council in December a senior highways officer stated that if the issue of cars obeying the new road layout was resolved it might be possible for some easing of the bus plug restrictions. We hope this will be the case. We want local residents to be able to access local roads after the relief road opens in Spring 2007. To see a map of the new road and bus plugs please see our web site at the following:
www.carltoneastlabour.org and click on "new roads".
The bus plugs will only allow buses through and all other traffic will face a red light. This means that local people will have to use the new road if they wanted to go from Gedling to Burton Joyce. Bus plugs are planned for the new road which links Morrisons and Burton Road near Carlton Le Willows School.

Tarmac application withdrawn
A three month deadline demanded by Labour Councillors on Notts County Council Planning Committee in May has led to a withdrawal by tarmac of their controversial 4.5 million tonne quarry near Burton Joyce.
Cllr James ORiordan, who is a member of the Planning Committee, raised the issue of the deadline at Septembers Planning meeting at County Hall on September 8th. He said that residents in Burton Joyce had waited long enough for a determination and they wanted a clear and early decision on this application. The Committee was then presented with a letter from Tarmac stating that the company was withdrawing its current application. The letter suggested that they may reapply in the future.
The issue of the quarry has been raised by Cllr John Clarke and Cllr James ORiordan at every opportunity since the councillors successful election in May 2005. The two Councillors released at statement after the meeting vowing to continue the fight against this quarry if another application is submitted in the future. They said: The key questions around flooding and de-watering have not gone away and we will keep these questions in the public domain for as long as it takes.
September 8th 2006
One of your local County Councillors James O'Riordan today asked for Planning Committee's resolution from May to carried out. This would mean that we considered the 2002 application without the additional material requested by the committee. This would mean, we thought, a refusal. Tarmac have however decided to withdraw their application. The three month deadline imposed by the Labour dominated Committee forced this withdrawl. We believe however that the company may submit in the future again. We will of course oppose this application in the strongest terms. The Tarmac letter is below.

STOP PRESS SATURDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2006
BURTON JOYCE QUARRY TARMAC MAY WITHDRAW APPLICATION FOR MASSIVE PROJECT
Saturday 2ND September 2006
We are receiving information that Tarmac may be about to withdraw their application to quarry for sand and gravel within two weeks. If this is so we warmly welcome this move. Tarmac were given a three month deadline to come up with additional information on flooding and the recharge trench by the Labour controlled Planning Committee. The deadline expired on Thursday. No information was forthcoming. We stronly believed that Tarmac would lose their application without this additional information. When we have official confirmation we will post on this web site and in the Libray at Burton Joyce.
Mini Bikes
The misuse of mini motorcycles and quad bikes by juveniles is still causing distress and irriation amongst many members of the public within Gedling Borough. These vehicles can only be used legally on private land with the permission of the owner, yet this seldom happens. Their use on other land or highways is totally illegal. The police are determined to rid the streets of these nuisance machines, but we need your help to identify where they are kept.
Do you know anyone who owns or houses one of these vehicles?
Should you know whereabouts these vehicles are located please pass the information to your local police station. You need not give your name unless you wish to do so.
The telephone number for Arnold Front Street police station is 0115 967 0999 Extension 4160 and Carlton police station 0115 940 0999 Extension 6668.
Alternatively you can ring the free Crime Stoppers number 0800 555 111.
Your help is much appreciated.
